We also were getting ready for our big trip back to UT to visit family. We hadn't been for a few years, and were so excited! Due to R being in school, he hadn't used much of his vacation time from work, so he was able to come with us the WHOLE time--all 27 glorious days!
We managed to fit in quite a bit, so I'm sure it will take more than one post. Here goes:
Our travel day was fairly uneventful, thank goodness. Other than the boys not sleeping almost the whole time (D-man did fall asleep on the final descent), in spite of arriving very late, we did well.
A magic calendaring coincidence put us in UT at the same time as some friends from Boston who have moved to England. So Thursday morning, we met at a lovely little park to catch up. We are so thrilled for their new house and adventures, but still miss them.
We managed to convince R's mom to watch the boys, so on Friday we escaped to capture some much-needed couple time. :) We started off with a Jamba Juice (oh, sweet bliss) and cashed in my Mother's Day gift certificate for a massage. Thank you sweetie!
Then we were off to Park City. This is where we spent our honeymoon, so it's always special to get there together. We did a bit of shopping and picked up some sandwiches for dinner, which we enjoyed as we waited at the Deer Valley Music Festival. Oh, what a beautiful setting. I definitely miss mountains and being able to "see out" here in Boston. It would almost have been enough just to sit there on that perfect evening and watch the clouds. But the music was fabulous, also. Keith Lockhart was guest conductor, and Time for Three joined the Utah Symphony, and it was spectacular. To top off the evening, the encore was "Stars and Stripes Forever." Having just missed catching it on the radio here on the 4th of July, I was finally fulfilled for the patriotic season. :)
On Saturday we did a little more shopping, then headed to the Draper Temple to perform some sealings as we remembered our own, 9 years before.
We picked up some delicious (and still warm) french bread, grapes, and cheese for a light dinner and checked in to the Castle Creek Inn. My memory did not disappoint. We had a lovely time, and they have such a delicious breakfast!
We made it back refreshed and just in time for Church and some good hugs from our boys. They were well cared for--thank you Grandma!
Sounds heavenly. Cool that Keith Lockhart came to you in Utah as well. You guys certainly deserved the break!
